Nature, Art & Habitat Residency (NAHR) Val Taleggio, Italy

Walking through the landscape of Val Taleggio, an observer can encounter the patterns created by the cycles of natural processes shaping both macrocosm and microcosm. Made during the NAHR residency in Val Taleggio, Italy, these photos and sketches document close views of locations where minerals, whether still in their raw state, or extracted and shaped for human industry, show the effect of the force of water, oxidation, organic growth, and the cycles of natural processes over time.

The two series consider the interconnection between land and atmosphere in photos that document textures and details of the ground as well as photos that imagine and visualize the different physical states of minerals on the ground and the sky.

These works look at macrocosm and microcosm, visualizing the existence of minerals in the atmosphere. The curves and hollows of white gypsum rock, shaped by water, seem to echo the geometry of clouds. Minerals seed the formation of cloud particles which freeze around mineral dust and metallic aerosols to affect temperature and precipitation.
